“I don’t know what is pulling me to you,” Samantha whispered. “And I don’t know if I can stop it. I don’t know if I want to.”
I took her face in my hands and gently kissed each eye, slowly working my way down to meet her lips. Moving my hands tenderly over her shoulders, I kissed her softly, over and over until she shifted in her seat and took my face into her own hands.
I pressed my lips hard against her mouth, greedy for her. Using my tongue, I moved deeper. She pulled away, softly taking my bottom lip into her mouth with one intake of breath. I was hard at once.
I stood up, taking her with me, my coat dropping to the ground. Wrapping my arms around her waist, I picked her up, kicking her chair out of my way.
She gasped.
I pinned her to the side of the gazebo, stopping to look into her eyes for cues to continue. She released her head, dropping it back and inviting me in. I kissed her neck, all the way to her collarbone, where I easily slipped the small strap of her silk dress off, allowing it to dangle. I kissed her beautiful soft shoulder, back up to her face, where she met me with passion—the kind only a woman on fire could deliver.
I pulled her up to rest on my hips and she wrapped her legs around me without direction. I continued to push against her through the anguish of the clothes that separated us.
“Wait.”
“What?” I asked, catching my breath.
“Did you feel that?”
“God, yes,” I gasped as I continued to kiss her neck.
She laughed. “No, Mac. The rain.”
“What?”
Instantly the heavens opened up and began to drench us. The candles on the table were smoldering and sopping immediately, as I grabbed her hand and we ran for the house.
Samantha squealed as the rain began to fall hard and fast. I was running, laughing and trying my best not to lose her or cause her to fall in her heels. Once we made it halfway, Randall met us with two umbrellas. Sam removed her shoes, and we were ushered into the main house.
“I’m sorry, sir,” Randall apologized as we walked through the kitchen door.
“Lawdy mercy,” Miss Celia added upon seeing us.
“I know, I know,” I said, hoping I hadn’t spoiled the evening. “I didn’t see it coming.”
“I didn’t want to disturb you, sir,” Randall said with a nod, knowing I followed his meaning.
“It’s fine.” Miss Celia handed us both towels. “I’ll take it from here. Thank you.” They left us in the kitchen, drenched, smiling and dripping on the marble floor.
I looked at Sam, all soaking wet and sexy as hell. Her hard nipples were showing through her wet and clingy silk dress.
I walked her into the front foyer and thought for a moment that I should let her dry off in the guest bathroom. Wrapping the towel around her, I didn’t want to lose the moment. I stopped her at the bottom of the stairs and pulled her to me. “Kiss me,” I begged. “I don’t want the rain to ruin our perfect evening.”
She stood on her toes, still holding her shoes with two fingers at her side. Slowly she kissed me, moving deeper as our passion began to rise. I dipped to the floor and picked her up at the waist, bringing her to my lips. The towels and shoes fell away, as we used our hands to find each other from the outside in.
“Maybe it’s a sign,” she whispered, catching her breath.
I pulled back with a puzzled look.
“The rain. Stopping us.”
“I think it is a sign,” I said with a nod, kissing her again.
I leaned down and in one motion, picked her up and carried her up the stairs. I made it to the top landing before I told her what I’d been thinking all night. “I want you.” I moaned softly, kissing her neck. She closed her eyes and nodded.

MAC
I kicked open the door to my master suite and slammed it behind me. Unwilling to take my hands from Samantha’s body, I put her down at the edge of my bed and kissed her softly. Moving behind her, I swept her wet hair and strand of pearls to the side and ran my lips along the delicate nape of her neck. She removed her pearl and diamond earrings one at a time and sat them on the table closest to my bed. Her every move was erotic. She tilted her head for me as I unzipped her dress from top to bottom. Slowly and deliberately I exposed her bare back, revealing her flawless skin and white silk panties.
She was muscular and lean—magnificent. I turned her around to face me without removing her dress, prolonging the need. She pulled at my tie, releasing it quickly and effortlessly unbuttoned my shirt.
A flash of lightning illuminated the sky, followed by a loud clap of thunder. “The gods are angry,” she whispered, gazing at me with her beautiful blues.
She peeled the wet shirt from my body and tossed it to the floor. I stepped back, removing my Rolex and kicked off my shoes and wet socks, tossing them all in a pile on the Oriental rug beneath our feet.
Another flash of lightning. Again, the sky lit up like the fourth of July. The deafening clap of thunder came quickly after, shaking the ancient house and windows with a horrific boom. Suddenly, the one lamp illuminating the bedroom flickered out. We were in the dark.
“Oh, my,” Sam drawled, instinctively leaning into me, unfamiliar with the room.
“Hang on,” I said, feeling my way to the desk by the window. A bright flash of lightning briefly lit the room. I picked up the wick that sat in the large gothic floor candelabra and lit it with a stick match from my writing table.
There she was: wet, sexy and all alone standing by my bed. She watched my every move as I slowly unbuckled and removed my belt. Using another match, I walked around the room, lighting each and every decorative pillar. Old candles sat in wrought iron on the wall, remnants of the house before it had been wired for electricity. Tonight, they were useful and romantic.
I blew out the match and went to her, longing to hold her in my arms. “I hope a little more candlelight is acceptable,” I said softly. I stood a breath away from her beauty—as close as I could without contact.
She put her hands on my waist and slowly began to unbutton my wet pants. My hard-on was easily visible even in the low light. I didn’t touch her, allowing myself the moment. Her hands worked slowly, deliberately. I closed my eyes and felt her unzip me. She pushed the wet pants down on either side of my hips—the water-weight dropping them quickly to the floor—exposing my black boxer briefs. She knelt and explored my body with her hands. Every muscle flinched at her touch. I stepped out of the wet pants and watched her soft and delicate fingers glide up my chest as she stood.
“Jesus, Sam,” I moaned, still denying myself her body. She looked up at me and I could wait no longer. I put my arms around her waist and pulled her close, hungry for her beautiful mouth. I kissed her slowly at first, wanting to savor the moment. I pulled back and placed my hands on the tiny straps that were keeping me from Sam’s full beauty. Stepping away, I wanted to take all of her in as I lifted the straps and watched the dress fall to the floor leaving her wearing only her silk panties and pearls.
“You’re beautiful,” I whispered, running my hand from her collarbone, down to cup her breast. I brushed my thumb across her taut nipple, and let out a soft moan as I felt her shiver in my arms. She moved her wandering hands downward and peeled the black boxer briefs from my body.
I was rock hard and had to give in. I grabbed her expensive panties, only to realize they were held together by tiny ribbons on each hip. I got down on my knees and looked up at her as she dropped her head back, relinquishing herself to the moment.
“I want my mouth on every inch of your body.”
I held her hips tightly within my grip and kissed her stomach, running my tongue from navel to hipbone, using my teeth to untie the first ribbon. Her breath caught and I quickly moved to the other side, catching the falling panties with my mouth.
I picked her up and flashed her a wicked smile, her panties still between my teeth. She wrapped her legs around my waist as I walked forward and up the
two steps to the elaborate four-poster bed. The lightening struck again, filling the room with flashes of white light. The storm raging outside was almost as electrifying as the one in my bedroom.
She smiled and removed her silk panties from my mouth, tossing them carelessly to the floor.
“I want to please you, Samantha.” Laying her on the soft sheets turned down earlier in the evening, I kissed her willfully. She responded with every stroke of my tongue. She was so beautiful, and I wanted inside her immediately. And then it hit me—I didn’t want Samantha to regret anything.
“Sam?” I asked. My hoarse voice was nearly ragged with desperation.
“Yes?”
“I want nothing more than to make love to you all night,” I said, stroking her wet and tousled hair away from her face. “But I need to make sure you want this too. I don’t want to take—”
She placed a single finger over my mouth to stop me and I couldn’t help but pull it into my mouth and gently bite it between my teeth.
“You aren’t taking advantage of me,” she whispered. “I want you too.”
I kissed her deeply, passionately. I knew exactly what I wanted and how I was going to get it. Moving between her thighs, I pushed her legs apart to gain better access. I nuzzled her neck with my face, moving down to her breasts, kissing each one and rolling her hard nipples in my mouth. With one breath, I pushed into her body to meet her gorgeous face. Easing into her, I watched her eyes flash as she gasped.
“Mac, we… I can’t take chances.”
“We’re not.” I was giving her my word—something she would soon understand was stronger than the oak tree at the front of my home. “I know saying trust me sounds incredibly lame, but will you trust me?”
She brought me in for a long kiss, pulling on my bottom lip and driving me wild. She held me tight, and took my earlobe in her sexy mouth before whispering exactly what I wanted to hear. “I’m trusting you, Mac Callahan.”
I eased back into her, stretching and filling her as she groaned. I circled my hips and pulled out again, taking us both into another world. Pulling the back of her leg to my body, I pushed it higher, going deeper and reaching for heaven. Samantha Peterson was systematically dismantling me from the inside out.
“Christ, Sam,” I groaned, feeling the climax upon me. I began to recite World Series champions in my head. Boston, New York, Chicago, Chicago-Cubs not Sox, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philly… Oh sweet Jesus… hang on.
“Oh yes,” she moaned. “Yes, don’t stop.”
“Yes.” I repeated the word, my voice dry and gruff. “Come for me, Samantha.”
Her legs clenched around my waist and I could feel her giving into the passion with each moan. Digging her fingers into my shoulders, pain turned to pleasure as her need escalated for me. I met each unspoken cue without hesitation. She shuddered, not saying a word, but instead held her breath, arching her back and taking each wave as it tormented her body with exhilaration. I watched in awe as the beautiful girl of my dreams gave into the brazen pleasure with graceful surrender.
She collapsed in my arms, a limp rag of spent ecstasy. “Yes,” she said with a whimper. Her vulnerability overcame me and I sensed a dynamic feeling of oneness for the first time in my life.
My body swallowed her tiny, delicate frame. I rolled us over, still hard inside her. She nestled her head on my shoulder as she caught her breath, our sweat and rain-soaked bodies intertwined. In the stillness, we listened to the downpour pound the large windows in the room. Finally, she broke the silence.
“Mac.” Her voice quivered and I immediately took notice of her exposed heart.
“Yes?”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything, baby—unless you want to.”
“I….” she began.
Pulling her close, I lifted my head to kiss her and wiped a small tear from her eye.
“Did you even climax?” Sam asked with embarrassment.
“Ladies first, baby. The night is very young, my sweet, sweet Samantha.”
*
I woke to the sound of the toilet flushing in my bathroom. Rolling over, I checked my phone—three a.m. The smaller candles had all but gone out, and the electricity remained off, evidenced by Sam padding into the room, a glowing candle in her hand.
She slid between the sheets, her naked body soft to the touch. I immediately drew her close. I could go round three, right here, right now, but I decided I would give Sam a break for the rest of the night. It had been nonstop lovemaking for the last five hours. Still, I was half hard just reliving it in my head.
“You okay?” I asked.
“Yes,” she said hesitantly.
“Are you sore?”
“Well—” she trailed off.
“It’s okay, baby.” I sighed, pulling her tighter to my side, kissing her face. “I want you to feel comfortable talking about anything with me.”
“I don’t know what to say. This is so out of character for me.”
“It is for me too,” I mumbled, taking a deep breath. “But for different reasons.”
“Mac, I don’t—sleep around,” Samantha confessed, a small tear hitting my bare chest.
“Are you crying?”
“Maybe a little.”
“Aw, honey. Why?”
I was met with silence.
“Samantha, I told you to trust me. Do you trust me?”
“Mac, you have to understand. I’ve never been—”
“With anyone other than your husband?” I finished the sentence for her.
“How did you know? Was it that obvious?”
“Nothing is obvious, baby, except the fact that—” I paused. I’m falling in love with you. “I adore you.”
“If I’m allowed to talk about anything with you, then I want to talk about the fact that you didn’t wear a condom.” Samantha sat up and peered down at me, her long hair filling the space between us.
“I’m sterile.” I pushed the hair from her face to see her reaction.
“What?”
“Mumps. It’s okay. I came to terms with it a long time ago. I’m just never going to be a father.”
“So you never wear a condom?” Samantha asked.
“No, I always wear a condom.”
“But tonight—”
“I know,” I agreed, sitting up to kiss her. “It just didn’t feel right, and I wanted tonight to be right. I wanted tonight to be perfect. You’re not like any other woman I’ve ever known, Sam.” I pulled her back down to the bed and onto my chest. “I just didn’t want anything between us.”
“So you’re saying I don’t have to worry about getting pregnant.”
“Believe me, I’ve been tested more times than I care to admit. There is less than one hundredth of one percent chance of me fathering a child. Prescription birth control isn’t that reliable. You don’t have to worry about getting pregnant,” I repeated to her. “You don’t have to worry about anything else either. I’ve been careful my whole life. Very careful.”
“You have a reputation as a bit of a player, Mac.”
“I’ve sown my fair share of wild oats,” I confessed. “But don’t believe everything you hear, Sam.”
“Don’t believe everything you hear, Mac.”
“Agreed, baby. Now come over here and give me some sugar,” I drawled as I rolled on top of her.
She laughed. “You still haven’t had enough?”
I kissed her and teased the seam of her lips with my tongue as she wrapped her arms around my neck, and pulled me closer.
Damn, I’m in trouble. Big trouble.
*
Waking up, I rolled over, the sunlight streamed through my window. I felt the space beside me in the bed without looking. Empty. I sat up and rubbed the stiffness of my morning beard. The clock on the wall read seven-thirty a.m. The candles had been blown out. Glancing around the room, still in a fog, I saw my rumpled suit hanging on the valet in the corner. Sam and her belongin
gs were nowhere to be found.
Damn. She’s gone. I rolled to my side to find a single lilac stem with a note.
Thank you for an unforgettable and magical evening. xxoo – S.
I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and dialed.
“Hello?”
“I had the most amazing evening with the sexiest girl Alabama has ever seen. Then I woke up all alone. Made me think the whole thing was just a fantastic dream.” I breathed deeply, sitting up in bed naked.
“Who is this?”
“Samantha?” I asked in a panic.
“Just kidding.”
“Damn, baby.” I exhaled with relief. “Don’t do that to me.”
“Serves you right.” She giggled and I couldn’t help but smile. “How’d you get my number, anyway?”
“I’m an FBI agent. Remember?”
“Oh, yeah.”
“You left before I could serve you breakfast in bed, sweetheart.” I stretched my body across the bedraggled sheets, wishing Sam was still in my arms.
“That’s okay. I needed to get going early this morning. I just called a cab.”
“I hate the thought of you in a cab,” I said, a bit put out.
“I was fine. I didn’t want to wake you.”
“Trust me. Next time, wake me.”
“Next time?”
“Yes. Next time. Speaking of which, when can I see you again? It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day outside, judging from the blinding light coming through my window.”
“Aren’t you out of bed yet?” Samantha asked, laughing at my obvious location.
“Baby, you wore me out last night. I’m still recuperating.”
“You’re recuperating?”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“How could I have known you were so well endowed below?” Samantha lowered her voice to a whisper.
“Samantha,” I teased. “I’m blushing.”
“No, you aren’t.”
“You’re right, I’m not,” I said, lying back in bed, gripping myself. “I’m getting all excited thinking about the prospect of you talking dirty to me.”
